I've had this self-portrait mask since 1998...I revisited it in Grad. School by using various media to create tribal facial pattering on the mask. I drew heavily on my printmaking background even though working on a three dimensional piece. In fact this experimentation has spawned ideas for whole series...back to the point...this piece has been in limbo and unfinished since it was created...serendipity played a huge part in bring this piece together this weekend when I saw these wings. I'm not even going to attempt a conceptual justification...I just think it looks cool.
