Wabi-Sabi, is the design concept most closely associated with Japan. Its aesthetic centers around the natural imperfection of nature and chance being the focal point. With this sushi plate set I wanted to play with Wabi-sabi. I began by rolling slabs of stoneware and scattering nuts, bolts, washers and screws on the surface to create a random pattern and to provide interest and texture. I then altered the slabs and formed them over dowel rods. I'm hoping the textures will provide some interesting glaze patterns.
